When not commenting on graduate programs in philosophy, the author is chair and professor of philosophy at Manhattan College. He has been a professor of liberal arts and philosophy and Director of Liberal Arts at The Juilliard School, professor and head of philosophy at Penn State-University Park, and professor and chair of philosophy at the University of Colorado, Denver. At the University of Colorado he was also director of the graduate interdisciplinary programs in the humanities and the social sciences. He is the author and editor of several books on Social and Political Philosophy, Social Theory, and Ethics. He has been the co-editor of the journal, Contemporary Pragmatism. Stanford University Press published his most recent book, Transcendence: On Self-Determination and Cosmopolitanism.
